Who we are & what we do

Harpole Parish Council consists of 13 Councillors who serve for a four-year term. Following the Election in April 2021, 13 Nominations were received and all councillors were returned unopposed.

All Councillors are voluntary and receive no payment whatsoever. They reside or work within the Parish and are holders of a public office.

The Parish Office Opening times are suspended during the Pandemic restrictions and will be reviewed prior to the end of the lockdown

Harpole Parish Council is staffed by the Clerk who works 15 hours a week and the Planning Executive officer who works 10 hours a week.

Council Meetings are normally held on the 2nd Monday of each month at 7 pm, see the diary of meetings for more information.

Services

What services do we provide?

Harpole Parish Council has a responsibility for the well-being of the local community. Its work falls into three main categories:

  1. representing the local community
  2. delivering services to meet local needs
  3. striving to improve quality of life in the parish

The responsibilities of the Council include:

  • Making grants to village organisations from council funds
  • Provision and maintenance of street lighting in the village (but not Highway lighting on the A4500)
  • allotments
  • monitoring the condition of footpaths/bridleways
  • Provison and maintenance of bus shelters
  • provison and maintenance of dog bins
  • grass and verge cutting on on Parish Council land and on behalf of West Northants Council
  • Speed warning signs

Other services:

The Council also works with West Northamptonshire Council (the Unitary Authority) for other services:

  • litter bins
  • planning
  • street cleaning
  • traffic calming measures

Our Councillors are elected or co-opted. If you would like to become a Councillor (should a vacancy occur) or find out more about what they do then please contact The Clerk.

Our Staff

We have a Clerk who is responsible for ensuring that the Council as a whole conducts it's business properly and provides independent, objective and processional advice and support to the Council. The Clerk is employed part time and can be contacted by phone or email.

Harpole will have an increase in housing over the next few years. To ensure that the interests of the Parish and Residents are at the forefront in dealings with the various stakeholders we have appointed a planning exective.

I have worked in Town and Parish Councils in Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire for the past 24 years, with a particular interest in helping communities to develop Councils that work for them, whilst gaining the best possible benefits from new developments in their area.

Professional Memberships: Fellow of Society of Local Council Clerk (Previously FILCM) Job Evaluation panel member for NALC/SLCC, SLCC Branch Chair (Northamptonshire), SLCC President.

Area of Expertise: Regeneration Policy, NALC/SLCC Job Evaluation, s106 agreements, design and delivery of community space and play area improvements.
